Artificial Intelligence Use Policy
Artificial Intelligence Use Policy: How Kerassentials Uses AI Responsibly
Technology is part of modern publishing, and artificial intelligence (AI) is now one of its most powerful and most misunderstood tools. At Kerassentials, we believe you have the right to know if, how, and why AI tools are used in the content you read.
This policy explains the role AI plays in our editorial workflow, the limits we place on it, and the safeguards that keep human judgment and accountability at the center of everything we publish.
1. Our Position on AI in Health-Related Content
Health and wellness information carries real consequences. For that reason, our guiding principle is simple:
AI may assist our work, but it never replaces human responsibility.
Every article published on Kerassentials is the responsibility of our human editorial team, regardless of what tools were used to prepare it. To understand who is accountable for our content, please see our Editor Profile and Editorial Policy.
2. How We May Use AI Tools
We may use AI-assisted software for supporting tasks such as:
- Research organization: sorting, summarizing, and structuring information from sources we have identified
- Outlining and drafting support: generating initial outlines, suggested headings, or draft passages that are then rewritten and verified by a person
- Editing and readability: improving grammar, clarity, tone, and consistency
- SEO and structural support: suggesting titles, meta descriptions, and internal link opportunities
- Translation and localization checks: helping ensure content reads naturally for audiences in the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand
- Accessibility and formatting: improving layout, summaries, and readability for a wider range of readers
- Administrative tasks: organizing reader messages or sorting incoming feedback
These uses are tools for efficiency. They do not replace research, fact-checking, or editorial decision-making.
3. What We Do NOT Use AI For
To protect you as a reader, we set firm boundaries. We do not:
- Publish AI-generated health or product claims without human verification
- Fabricate reviews, testimonials, or customer stories. Every experience we reference is real and clearly identified as an individual experience, consistent with the FTC’s rules on consumer reviews and testimonials
- Invent experts, credentials, quotes, or authors. We never present AI-generated personas as real professionals
- Create misleading before-and-after images or any imagery that suggests results that cannot be substantiated
- Provide personalized medical advice through automated tools. Kerassentials is an informational publisher, not a healthcare provider
- Make fake or inflated claims about AI itself. We do not describe our content or tools in ways we cannot support, in line with FTC guidance on keeping AI claims in check
- Publish content automatically without human review
4. Human Oversight: Our Review Safeguards
Before any article goes live, it passes through the following human-led safeguards:
- Source verification. Factual statements are checked against reliable sources, such as the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), MedlinePlus, and peer-reviewed research indexed in PubMed.
- Claim review. Any statement about ingredients, benefits, or product performance is examined to make sure it is supportable and does not suggest that a product diagnoses, treats, cures, or prevents a disease.
- Compliance check. Content is reviewed against advertising and disclosure standards, including the FTC Endorsement Guides.
- Editorial approval. A human editor reviews and approves the final text before publication.
- Ongoing monitoring. Content is revisited and updated when new information emerges.
5. Recognizing the Limits of AI
AI systems can be useful, but they are imperfect. They can produce statements that sound confident yet are inaccurate, outdated, or unsupported. This is especially risky in health topics. That is why we treat AI output as an unverified draft, never as a source of truth.
If you ever find a statement on this site that appears inaccurate, please tell us. We will review it and correct it as described in our Corrections Policy.
6. Transparency and Disclosure
We aim to be open about our process:
- This policy publicly describes how AI may be used in our work.
- We do not present AI-assisted content as independent medical review, and we do not misrepresent who is responsible for it.
- Affiliate relationships are disclosed whether or not AI tools were involved in preparing a page. You can read about how we earn revenue in our Monetization Policy.
We also follow the spirit of search-engine guidance that rewards helpful, people-first content, and that treats automation used mainly to manipulate rankings as a violation. See Google’s guidance on using generative AI content. Our goal is always to serve readers, not to game algorithms.
7. Data Protection and Privacy When Using AI
We take care with personal information when using any digital tool:
- We do not intentionally enter personal reader information (such as names, email addresses, or health details) into AI tools unless necessary and permitted by our Privacy Policy.
- We do not use AI to build profiles of individual readers’ health conditions.
- We handle personal data in line with applicable laws, including the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA).
- Information about cookies and similar technologies can be found in our Cookie Policy.
If you contact us, we ask that you avoid sharing sensitive health information, as described in our Feedback Policy.
8. Responsible AI Principles We Follow
Our approach is informed by widely recognized principles for trustworthy AI, including those described in the NIST AI Risk Management Framework and the transparency expectations emerging under the EU Artificial Intelligence Act. In practice, that means we strive for:
- Accountability: a named human editorial team is responsible for what we publish
- Transparency: we explain how technology is used
- Accuracy: we verify before we publish
- Fairness: we avoid content that stereotypes or misleads
- Privacy: we limit and protect the data we handle
- Safety: we avoid content that could encourage unsafe health decisions
9. Third-Party Tools and Services
Some third-party tools we use (for example, analytics, website hosting, or writing assistance) may incorporate AI features. We select tools carefully, but we do not control the internal workings of third-party systems. Where third-party technologies collect data from visitors, they are covered by our Privacy Policy and Cookie Policy, and by the terms of those providers.
10. AI-Generated Content and Intellectual Property
Content on Kerassentials, whether created by people or prepared with AI assistance and then edited by our team, is protected by the intellectual property terms in our Terms of Use. We respect the intellectual property rights of others and work to avoid copying protected material.
11. Important Health Disclaimer
All content on Kerassentials is provided for general educational and informational purposes only and is not medical advice.
Content, including any material prepared with the help of AI tools, is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease, and statements about products have not been evaluated by the FDA unless explicitly stated. Nail changes can have many causes, some of which require professional care. Please consult a qualified healthcare professional about your individual situation, particularly if you have diabetes, poor circulation, a weakened immune system, or any ongoing health condition.

12. Updates to This Policy
AI technology and the rules around it are evolving quickly. We may revise this policy as our practices, tools, and legal requirements change. The “Last reviewed” date at the bottom of this page shows when it was last updated.
